The County Tories have just:

bulletIntroduced charges for Day Care
bulletIncreased charges for transport to Day Centres
bulletScraped funding for "Meals on Wheels"

Nicky Turner said "At a time when prices are rising and pensions don't keep pace, I fi9nd it incredibly hard hearted of the Conservatives to introduce these extra charges.  They just don't seem to care.

Nicky's Background

Nicky has lived on the edge of Stowmarket in Onehouse for the past 10 years. Her children were educated at local schools and she has supported the local community, by serving on the Village Playgroup, and After School Club committees. Nicky has just become a Parish Councillor.

Nicky says she lives in the country for all the benefits it offers. She understands and supports the need for development, especially low cost housing to accommodate young people and others moving into area, but believes there must be a balanced approach that takes account of the needs of the existing community.

Local people are worried about Conservative plans for school closures, charges for the elderly, cuts in bus services and privatisation of our libraries.

Liberal Democrats will:

bulletFight to protect the residents of Creeting St Peter from excessive mineral extraction
bulletDefend the Library service from creeping cost cuts that will follow the Tory proposal to "privatise" the service
bulletPush hard for a coherent plan for Stowmarket rather than the current knee jerk reactions to developers plans
bulletFight to save our local Post Offices

The Suffolk Conservative record

bulletCut adult social services by £27 million
bulletAward themselves MASSIVE pay rises
38% for Conservative leader
69% for Deputy Leader
78% for Cabinet members
bulletPaid £176,000 to consultants who recommend privatising services
bulletCUT Bus services
bulletClosing council run day services
bulletClosing 40 schools at a cost of £23 million
bulletCharging older people for day care
